Jamie and Russell: Feathers and Light at the Huguenot Loft

We met Jamie for the first time at the January Wedding Festivals. She had just been proposed to in December, knew that she would have a large guest list, and a not-so-large budget. Jamie came to the show with her mother, Cheryl, her soon to be mother-in-law, Sherri, and her maid of honor, Alisha. When I introduced myself and asked when and where the big day was, I was given a date and no location. I promptly pulled out my camera and showed the lovely crew pictures of the Huguenot Loft and was telling them all sorts of budget friendly ideas.

As they walked away, Sherri leaned into me and said, "You are fabulous."

Cheryl emailed me the following Monday and booked our services. We are so happy they did!

With a guest count of 230 people and a budget of $17,000, Jamie got the wedding of her dreams.
We started with the dessert reception concept. Jamie did a great job of informing her guests to eat dinner before her 7:30 p.m. wedding with dessert reception immediately following.
Larkins kept the menu simple of just desserts, coffee, wine, champagne, and beer. Oh, and a massive wedding cake (over 3 feet tall!) from Hollys Cakes.
Jamie told me she really wanted peacock feathers and candles incorporated into her big day. Peacock feathers were used on the invitations, the out of town guest bags, the guest book and pens, in every program, and even on the cake. B&R Events made the men in the bridal party peacock feather boutonnieres, while Dahlia incorporated 100 feathers into the bridesmaid bouquets, Jamie's bouquet, and an alter arrangement.
We decided that we would give the two areas of the Loft two distinctive feels- the ceremony area would be dark and candle (and luminary) lit and romantic and the reception area would have a modern feel. Jamie and Russell had the most fun favors- a photo booth from Shutterbooth!

We used hour glass shaped vases on the cocktail tables and filled them with peacock feathers and LED lights. The "low top" tables had three tall pilsner vases with purple water that was illuminated by purple LEDs and a floating votive on top. We used chair sashes as runners to keep costs low (try $2). We then hung 60 lanterns over the dance floor to give it emphasis.



Oh, and do you like the awesome floor decal that was in the middle of the dance floor?



93 candles, 42 luminaries, and a single spot light were the only sources of light for Jamie and Russell's 7:30 ceremony. DJ EZ and I were on the phone during the entire ceremony to keep the music perfectly timed (the BB is so much easier than a walkie-talkie).



At the center of the room was the cake, which Jamie and Russell cut immediately before their first dance. The color palette of plum, pale gold, ivory, and black were ideal for all the feathers and light.
